It comes off is you have patience. I got it off of the roof years ago. I can't actually remember what I used. I put it on a track. No buzz, no light, no movement.
Underneath is original wiring except one has a synthetic cover over it. The rest of the wires are original. I cannot see any reason why it wouldn't work. My bad if you jiggle a connection and away it goes down your track. It has an AC/DC switch. If you have a sideline on your layout and want a neat looking aged/weathered 42...
