Up for your consideration is this nice Lionel standard gauge passenger set. This set has been stored for about 30 years and includes a Number 8 Boxcab Electric Engine, two pullman passenger cars and one observation car. The engine is olive drab and appears to be the a nice factory? Paint job, but a scratch on the roof reveals burgundy color underneath.I lubricated the wheel bearings and armature bearings and to my amazement it ran! Manual reversing lever works forward /reverse. It needs a thorough cleaning and lubrication to run well, assuming you intend to run it. Issues noted: both headlamp assemblies are missing. Reproduction headlamp assemblies are readily available.
Also, one wheel flange is damaged - see close-up photo. It still runs pretty well on the track even with this damage, especially if you put the damaged wheel on the inside of the curves. It looks like the original owner installed some type of cloth light diffuser material inside the cab. I recommend removing that when the engine is disassembled for cleaning. The three passenger cars appear to be painted over the original burgundy color. You can still faintly read "NEW YORK CENTRAL LINES" as well as either "PULLMAN" or "OBSERVATION". These cars could be lubricated and run as-is. Or, they would make good candidates for repainting.
Overall condition of the set is a little tough to say, given the painted cars I would say condition is good to very good. The only missing pieces appear to be the headlight fixtures on the engine as well as the screws that hold the tops onto the passenger cars. Overall, a very nice CLASSIC Lionel Standard Gage Set!
