Amtrak AEM-7 locomotives built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors served the regional and long distance trains up and down the North East Corridor for close to 40 years, logging over 220 million miles between Washington, D. Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Harrisburg and other points in between. Utilizing electrical components supplied from Swedish company ASEA and shells constructed by the Budd Company in Philadelphia, EMD manufactured 54 of the units for Amtrak in three separate orders; 1977 (30 units), 1980 (17 units) and 1988 (7 units). The boxy double-ended 7000hp motors were considered lightweight, weighing just 101 tons and were capable of a maximum speed of 125mph. These iconic engines are affectionately called as "Mighty Mouse", "Meatball", and "Toasters" by railroaders. About the HO scale Model. Up for sale is a AEM-7 locomotive painted for Amtrak Northeast Direct Scheme in HO scale from ATLAS. The model number is 8576. So, you can decal it to a number of your choice. Please note: the locomotive runs smoothly in both the directions.

HOWEVER, when it is accelerated or stopped suddenly/abruptly, I hear a scraping noise at that moment. It doesn't happen when the speed is increased/decreased gradually as in a real locomotive. The locomotive was in storage for years. Adding lubes to the gears may help.

The lights on both ends work. 2 side mirrors are missing - one on each side. The locomotive comes in its original box with all papers.

I also see a pair of couplers in an unopened pouch. I don't see any other obvious issues, but please do zoom in and examine the pictures carefully as they are part of description. Any questions, please feel free to ask before purchasing.

So, please be prepared, and allow for additional transit time. The item "HO scale AEM-7 (AEM7) Amtrak Northeast Direct locomotive from ATLAS #8576" is in sale since Saturday, November 13, 2021.
